The Sheriff’s Office says preliminary reports suggest the shooting occurred away from where the victims were found early Wednesday.
HUNT COUNTY, Texas — One person died in an early morning shooting in Hunt County Wednesday, the sheriff’s office confirmed.
In a news release, the department said around 3:22 a.m., it received a report of a shooting victim at the intersection of State Highway 276 and County Road 3609.
When a deputy arrived on scene, they found one person suffering from a gunshot wound and another person with unspecified injuries. HCSO said the deputy provided life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, but the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim was taken to a hospital with suspected serious injuries, the release states.
HCSO said preliminary information shows that the shooting happened at a different location from where the victims were found.
“Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the public,” the department said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety’s Texas Rangers are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
