Celina police said during a press conference that the boy’s body was recovered from a pond.
CELINA, Texas — Celina officials announced in a press release that they recovered the body of an 8-year-old boy after he was reported missing Friday morning.
The family of MJ Ashmead, an 8-year-old boy, told police before 9:30 a.m. that a child was missing from their Sutton Fields neighborhood home, according to a Celina Police Department press release.
“A tragic loss like this cuts to the core of who we are, as a community, as neighbors and as first responders,” John Thacker, Celina Police Department public information officer, said during a May 29 press conference.
The Celina Police Department and Celina Fire Department began a search to locate the missing child on Friday. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) also provided air support. Collin County Sheriff’s Office and the Lewisville Fire Department provided a dive teams, and Frisco and Hickory Creek police pitched in with a K-9 unit, while Prosper police provided a drone unit in the search.
Just after 12 p.m., the Celina Police Department told family members that the missing boy’s body had been located in a pond near the neighborhood.
No foul play is suspected, police said in the press release.
