New attorneys assigned to Pooh Shiesty kidnapping, robbery case

Court documents show that the Memphis rapper filed a motion for new counsel on Tuesday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty reportedly has new attorneys in his kidnapping and robbery case.

According to court documents, Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., filed a motion to substitute counsel on Tuesday, April 28. Texas federal judge Renee Toliver granted the motion soon after.

Williams’ previous attorneys have been removed from his case, and three new attorneys have been assigned. Williams’ motion does not give details on why he wanted new attorneys.

Williams is one of nine suspects accused of kidnapping and robbing Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane at a music studio in Dallas, Texas.

According to prosecutors with the federal government, Williams and his father, Lontrell Williams Sr., planned the attack to force Gucci Mane to sign paperwork releasing Williams from his contract with Gucci Mane’s record label.

Memphis rapper Big30, born Rodney Wright Jr., is also one of the defendants charged in the case. Wright is accused of barricading the door to the music studio and handing Williams the gun he allegedly pointed at Gucci Mane.

Williams is currently in federal custody in Dallas, Texas. A federal judge denied bond for Williams on April 8.
