Livingston police officer fired and in custody

Officials said Ryan Boyd, 45, was fired for having an improper relationship with a student while he was working at the high school.

LIVINGSTON, Texas — A Livingston police officer is off the job and facing charges after being accused of having an improper relationship with a student while he was working at the high school.

Officials said 45-year-old Ryan Boyd was placed on leave on May 1, when Livingston ISD said they notified the police department about the allegations.

On May 11, he was fired and charged with an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

The department said the district notified them earlier this month, which led to Boyd being removed from campus and placed on leave.

According to Livingston Independent School District officials, “school-based officers are employees of the Livingston Police Department and serve the district” through an understanding with the City of Livingston.

After an internal and independent investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Boyd was fired and taken into custody.

The Livingston Police Department issued a statement on social media that read, in part: “LPD understands incidents like this can damage public trust. We want our community to know that these allegations were taken seriously from the beginning. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and protecting our community.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Polk County District Attorney’s Office.
