Empty Stomach Group has revealed the latest offering in its San Antonio smorgasbord — and this one is quirked up, to be sure.

First there’s the name: Bar Bamboosh. Then there are the unconventional food offerings at the downtown spot, which opened this weekend.

“I hope you guys like baby eels & blood sausage & wine because @barbamboosh is open,” Empty Stomach honcho Chad Carey said with an Instagram post unveiling the new concept.

The menu also includes a Manchego Mille Feuille, charcuterie and other small plates.

Empty Stomach Group, Carey’s restaurant and bar collective, includes Barbaro, Hot Joy, Extra Fine, Little Death and Paper Tiger, among other hip gathering spots around town. But Carey insists Bar Bamboosh adds its own special sauce to the mix.

“This is a wine bar before it’s anything else,” Carey said via Instagram. “But unlike @littledeathwine it has a broader wine focus. And the food isn’t exactly Spanish but it’s inspired by the punchy little snacks from there. Lots salty ham & garlic & acid & anchovies & cheese.”

Carey added that Bar Bamboosh, located at 122 E. Houston St., Suite 102, is serving up sliced meats thanks to an antique slicer rehomed from Chef Steven McHugh of Cured at Pearl. The nosh spot will also have cava along with beers on tap thanks to Küenstler Brewing.

For those who work downtown, Bar Bamboosh positions itself as the perfect spot to catch up with a friend after work over drinks and a bite — be it baby eel or something more pedestrian.

“It’s weird to talk about a place before you (the people who decide if they like this idea) decide if they like it. But I think it’s fun & original & not-boring and — as per always, most importantly — delicious,” Carey wrote in the post.

Bar Bamboosh’s hours are 3 p.m.-midnight Monday through Friday and noon-midnight Saturday and Sunday.
