Apple agrees to $250M settlement over false advertising accusations

The lawsuit, filed in 2024, accused the tech giant of showing the enhanced AI model in advertisements for newer iPhone models “even though no such feature exists.”

WASHINGTON — Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class action lawsuit that accused the company of misleading customers about new iPhones having an “enhanced” Siri.

The lawsuit, filed in 2024, accused the tech giant of showing the enhanced AI model in advertisements for newer iPhone models “even though no such feature exists.”

“Consumers expressed shock, disappointment, and frustration,” the lawsuit alleged. “Many stated publicly they would never have purchased or upgraded to the iPhone 16 had they known the truth.”

The iPhones launched without the promised features, and the lawsuit claimed this harmed shareholders. Apple later said the Siri AI overhaul would not launch until sometime in 2026, according to Reuters

In agreeing to settle the class action lawsuit, Apple admits to no wrongdoing.

The settlement is not yet final, and there is no way for people to make claims yet.

Clarkson and Co-Lead Counsel, the law firm that represented consumers in the class action suit, estimates a payout of between $25 to $95 per device.

People who bought iPhone 16 or iPhone 15 models between June 10, 2024 to March 29, 2025 are eligible to make a claim. More information will be released “in a few weeks” for consumers, the law firm said on their website
