The Denton ISD school board approved a new compensation plan for the 2026-27 school year that includes a 4% increase for teachers
DENTON, Texas — Denton ISD trustees approved a new compensation plan for the 2026-27 school year that includes pay raises for teachers and staff, district officials announced Tuesday.
The plan includes a 4% market increase for teachers and a 2% midpoint increase for staff. District leaders said the new compensation package is part of an ongoing effort to recruit and retain educators and support staff across the district, which serves more than 33,200 students.
Under the plan, first-year teachers will have a starting salary of $63,500. The district will also continue offering stipends for high-need and advanced-credential positions, including $2,000 for special education teaching assignments in critical areas, $4,000 for bilingual teaching assignments, $1,750 for employees with a master’s degree and $3,500 for those with a doctorate.
The board’s approval follows a series of recent compensation increases. Ahead of the 2025-26 school year, trustees approved a 3% midpoint increase for teachers and staff. In February, the district also approved a 1% compensation increase for all employees following the passage of Proposition A.
“Our teachers and staff are the heart of Denton ISD, and the progress our students make every day is a direct reflection of their dedication and expertise,” Superintendent Dr. Susannah O’Bara said in a statement.
In addition to pay increases, Denton ISD said employees will continue to have access to benefits and support programs, including wellness centers, childcare options and professional development opportunities.
