Next Tuesday’s installment in Texas Public Radio’s Book Public Live! series will feature Filth Eaters, a hot-off-the-press debut novel by Laredo-born, San Antonio-based author, poet and painter Ito Romo.
Host Yvette Benavides will talk to Romo about his work, which reimagines vampire lore through a postcolonial lens, following a lineage of mestizo immortals across space and time. Romo furthers his signature “Chicano Gothic” subgenre, tinged with historical fiction and Blade Runner-esque futuristic noir.
Jumping between time periods extending from 11th century India to the distant future, the book harnesses the universal myth of vampirism to critique the history of power structures that feed off greed.
Free, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, Malú & Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater, Texas Public Radio, 321 West Commerce St., (210) 614-8977, tpr.org.
