AUSTIN, Texas — Members of Austin, Texas band Peelander-Z are recovering after a crash in New Mexico.
According to the band’s record label, Chicken Ranch Records, Peelander-Z was involved in a “major traffic accident” outside of Albuquerque on the evening of Monday, May 18. An online fundraiser for the band said their vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer.
Members Yellow, Pink and Tiger were hospitalized following the crash.
The Japanese-American band is known for their colorful costumes and high-energy punk performances.
According to the label, the band members were placed in intensive care and are expected to be hospitalized for some time. The fundraiser said on Monday that all three band members are conscious and stable but that they had suffered traumatic injuries including multiple fractures, organ injuries and brain injuries.
As a result of the crash, the remainder of the band’s tour has been canceled.
The online fundraiser that has so far raised more than $144,000 is set up to support the band members as they work toward recovery.
The label said it will update fans on any possible benefits, and it is encouraging any fans who want to set up a benefit show to contact the label directly.
The band has had a tumultuous 2026. In February, their van was reported as stolen, having disappeared from an apartment parking lot on East 45th Street in Austin. It was recovered in March.
