Bicyclist killed in crash on I-20, Arlington police say

After a vehicle swerved to avoid the bicyclist, a Toyota Prius behind the car then collided into the victim.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Arlington police are investigating after a bicyclist was killed in a crash Monday afternoon along eastbound Interstate 20, officials said.

According to the Arlington Police Department, officers were called to the crash just before 4 p.m. to I-20 near Matlock Road.

Police say their investigation showed the victim was trying to cross the interstate from one side to the other when a vehicle in the second lane swerved to avoid hitting them.

But a Toyota Prius traveling behind that vehicle then collided into the bicyclist, police said.

Officials said the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Prius and other passengers in the car suffered minor injuries, police said, and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police temporarily closed eastbound I-20 near Cooper Street while officers investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.

The victim has not yet been identified. Once their next of kin have been notified, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release their identity.
