WASHINGTON — Ted Turner, the Atlanta businessman who revolutionized cable news by founding CNN, has died, according to the cable network on Wednesday. He was 87 years old.
“Barring satellite problems in the future, we will be on until the world ends,” Turner once said about the 24-hour news network before its launch on June 1, 1980.
The media mogul was also well known for owning sports franchises in Atlanta, like the Braves and the Hawks. Turner also founded TNT, TBS, Turner Classic Movies and Cartoon Network.
