Hudson Oaks issues boil water notice after contractor strikes main water line

A construction accident has triggered a boil water notice for parts of Hudson Oaks. Here is how to keep your family safe.

HUDSON OAKS, Texas — Parts of Hudson Oaks are under a boil water notice on Wednesday, following a water main break caused by a construction accident.

The City of Hudson Oaks issued the notice after a contractor struck a main water line during an ongoing project. According to city officials, crews were initially unable to shut off the water, “eventually causing the water system pressure to drop below 20 pounds per square inch.”

While the line has been repaired and pressure is restored, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires the city to issue a notice due to the drop in pressure. The city clarified that the notice only affects the Hudson Oaks public water system and does not impact the Trinity River Estates or Dyegard systems.

To ensure the “destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes,” the city advises that water used for consumption—including brushing teeth, washing faces, and making ice—must be boiled.

“The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes,” officials stated in the release. Residents may also use bottled water as an alternative.

The city noted that “children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria.”

The boil water notice will remain in effect until testing confirms the water is safe.

“When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes,” the city said.

Officials are asking residents to share this information with neighbors, particularly those in apartments, nursing homes, or schools who may not have received the alert directly.
