Football coach arrested in connection with 2024 incident in Arlington

Jonathan Cruz was hired as the head football coach of McNeil High School in March.

ROUND ROCK, Texas — A high school head football coach in Round Rock is on administrative leave following his arrest.

A Round Rock ISD spokesperson confirms Jonathan Cruz, 41, was arrested on Monday for an incident that happened before he was hired.

Cruz was hired as the head football coach of McNeil High School in March.

Online jail records show Arlington police had a warrant for his arrest in April, stemming from a case CPS reported in January 2024.

Arlington police told KVUE they are investigating possible child abuse that did not involve any students.

“We want to be clear this case was domestic in nature and did not involve any students at any schools where he worked,” police said.

Cruz was arrested on a charge of injury to a child with intent bodily injury and booked into the Williamson County Jail.
