Coast Guard seeks owners of sailboat moored near spot where Michigan mother vanished in the Bahamas

The Coast Guard is now asking for help to find potential witnesses who could help in their investigation.

WASHINGTON — The search for an American woman who vanished in the Bahamas back in early April is still ongoing, and authorities are asking for help to find leads in the investigation.

Lynette Hooker’s husband, Brian, told authorities on April 5 that his wife was missing.

The couple was sailing in the Bahamas on an 8-foot motorboat when Brian said his wife apparently fell overboard in rough waters the night before, while they were traveling from Hope Town to Elbow Cay.

The 55-year-old Michigan mother has been missing ever since.

Brian told authorities Lynette had the boat’s keys in her pocket when she went overboard, which caused the engine to shut off, forcing him to swim to shore.

The U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service on Tuesday asked for the public’s help to find the owner of a sailboat that was moored near the couple’s boat, Soulmate, in Aunt Pat’s Bay on April 4.

The Coast Guard is asking anyone who has information that could aid in their investigation to contact them through the Coast Guard tips app or website.

The couple has been married for more than 20 years and chronicled their adventures sailing around the Caribbean on their “Sailing Hookers” social media accounts.

Brian was arrested April 8 as a possible person of interest in her disappearance. He was questioned and released without charges April 13.

Following his release, Brian’s attorney issued a statement saying he would not participate in further media interviews and was focused on the search.

“He is dedicating his full emotional and physical energy toward coordinating with relevant parties to find her,” the statement read.
