SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas — An urgent search is underway now in Surfside Beach for a missing 10-year-old from Fort Bend County.
According to Surfside Beach Police Chief Phillip Hester, officers got a call about a distressed swimmer at 5:30 p.m. He said that within a couple of minutes, they had drones sent to the beach and had called the U.S. Coast Guard, but no one was able to locate the boy.
Hester said he called Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch, who told KHOU 11 that his organization was on the way to help with the search.
According to Hester, the child is from Richmond and is part of a youth football team that was at the beach.
Rough currents and waves made the search difficult, according to Hester. He and officers with the Surfside Beach Police Department are searching on foot.
This is a developing story. We’ll post any new updates as we get them.
