United Airlines revives nonstop flights between Houston and Caracas, boosting international ties and reconnecting Houston’s large Venezuelan community.
HOUSTON — United Airlines is restoring a key international link from Houston, announcing it will resume nonstop daily service between George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Caracas, Venezuela, starting Aug. 11.
The route will operate between Houston’s IAH and Simón Bolívar International Airport, marking the first direct service to Venezuela in nearly a decade.
The airline said the move strengthens Houston’s role as a global gateway to Latin America and supports growing business, cultural and family connections across the region.
“I’m pleased to see the nonstop service resume between Houston and Caracas. It reflects the importance of Houston’s international connections and economic ties across the globe,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said. “This route will reconnect travelers and Houston businesses. I want to thank United Airlines and the Houston Airport System for resuming this level of service.”
The mayor has recently emphasized expanding Houston’s global profile through new international routes and partnerships, including additional nonstop service announcements tied to Europe and Latin America.
Houston is home to one of the largest Venezuelan communities in the United States, and officials say the restored route will make it easier for families to reconnect while also supporting travel and commerce between the two regions.
“Houston is one of the most connected international gateways in the Americas, and the return of nonstop service to Caracas restores an important connection to another capital city in our global network,” said Jim Szczesniak, Houston Airports director of aviation. “This route reconnects communities and creates new opportunities for travelers and businesses across our region.”
United currently operates up to 100 daily flights from Houston to more than 50 destinations across Latin America and the Caribbean, with connections to more than 180 destinations worldwide.
The airline will operate the route daily on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Tickets are now available on United’s website.
