Trump says he’ll ‘try’ to attend son Don Jr.’s wedding this weekend: ‘Not good timing’

President Donald Trump said Thursday he will “try” to attend his eldest son’s wedding this weekend but cited the Iran war and a packed schedule.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s eldest son is getting married this weekend, but the president’s RSVP is still a “maybe.”

Trump cast doubt Thursday on whether he would attend his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding, telling reporters gathered at the Oval Office that the timing was less than ideal given ongoing foreign policy pressures.

A reporter asked the president directly whether he would be attending Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding on Saturday to Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas.

“He’d like me to go. It’s going to be just a small little private affair,” Trump said. “I’m going to try and make it. I’m in the midst — I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.'”

The president said the political optics were not great either way.

“That’s one I can’t win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed — by the fake news, of course,” he said, adding that he hoped the couple would “have a great marriage.”

Trump’s comments came as he continues to balance personal commitments with ongoing geopolitical pressures, including tensions involving Iran. According to a notification from the Federal Aviation Administration, the president is expected to spend the holiday weekend at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J.

Who is Don Jr. marrying?

Bettina Anderson is a socialite, model and influencer from a prominent Palm Beach family. She has worked as a model and influencer, posing for regional publications such as Palm Beach Illustrated.

The couple first began appearing together in 2024, shortly after Don Jr. split from Fox News host and U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle. The president announced the engagement at the White House in December 2025.

“This has been the most unforgettable weekend. I get to marry the love of my life, and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world,” Anderson said at the time.

As for the venue, the couple originally had grander ambitions. According to Page Six, Donald Jr. and Anderson were originally eyeing a wedding at the White House but opted for something more private due to the war in Iran. A source told the outlet that the couple is “very aware that a lavish wedding at the White House while people are dying wouldn’t be well-received.”

Before his relationship with Guilfoyle, Don Jr. was married to Vanessa Trump, the mother of his five children, for nearly 13 years. The president’s former daughter-in-law recently revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing treatment.
