Texas teen dies in wrong-way crash after high-speed chase with deputies, sheriff’s office says

Collin County Sheriff’s officials said the chase started after deputies tried to do a traffic stop on a car suspected of DWI after nearly hitting a patrol car.

COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — One juvenile has died, and another hospitalized after a deadly crash following a chase with Collin County Sheriff’s deputies early Saturday morning, according to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office. 

Officials said deputies attempted to do a traffic stop on a vehicle suspected of Driving While Intoxicated after the driver nearly hit a patrol car. The vehicle fled, and deputies initiated a chase. 

Officials said during the chase, the driver continued to evade deputies and traveled at high speeds in the wrong direction on the roadway. 

Police said the car crashed at approximately 4 a.m. near Virginia and Independence Parkway in McKinney and caught fire. 

Officials said the driver, a juvenile, was able to exit the car and was taken to the hospital. The passenger, also a juvenile, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The McKinney Police Department and Fire Department responded to the scene. The McKinney police department is investigating the crash. 

Officials determined that the car the two juveniles were in had been stolen from a business in McKinney.
