Suspect dead after failed carjacking attempt, Garland police say

Investigators are in the area of TX-66 and Dairy Rd after a car collision led a person to try to steal multiple cars before being shot, according to authorities.

GARLAND, Texas — Garland police are investigating a fatal shooting this evening after a hit and run suspect reportedly tried to leave the scene of their accident by attempting to steal the wrong vehicle.

Authorities have told WFAA at the scene that the shooting death occurred due to a suspect who travelled on TX 66 Sunday afternoon and became involved in a multi-vehicle accident. While fleeing the accident scene at the intersection of 66 and Dairy Rd, they tried getting into multiple parked vehicles, eventually coming upon a white Malibu that was occupied by multiple children and adults.

Police confirm that a shooting incident occurred at the Malibu, and the crash suspect was shot and later declared deceased. The call for the shooting went out at approximately 5:45 p.m.

Police say they will not charge the Malibu driver with any offense. The crash suspect and shooting victim has not been identified at this time.
