Shooting outside Baytown nursing home leads to chase and arrest in Chambers County, police say

A man is in stable condition after being shot outside a Baytown nursing home. The suspect was captured after a highway chase, according to police.

BAYTOWN, Texas — A man was hospitalized after a shooting outside a nursing home in Baytown Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to the Baytown Police Department, officers responded around 2 p.m. to a reported shooting at a nursing home on Allenbrook Drive near Birdsong Drive.

Preliminary information indicates a woman was standing outside speaking with a male acquaintance who was sitting inside a vehicle when another man — also described as an acquaintance — drove by and fired multiple rounds, investigators said.

Police said the victim was struck in the leg area before running inside the nursing home. He was later transported to a hospital and was reported to be stable.

The woman was not injured, and no other injuries were reported, according to police.

Baytown police detectives responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate the shooting.

Authorities said officers with Chambers County and the Texas Department of Public Safety later located the suspect vehicle in Chambers County, leading to a pursuit along Interstate 10.

The suspect eventually crashed into a ditch and was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

No additional information about the suspect or potential charges has been released.
