Royce City middle schooler detained after reportedly making a school threat, police say

According to the Royce City Police Department, the Ouida Baley Middle School student made a verbal threat against the school.

ROYSE CITY, Texas — A middle schooler was detained by Royse City police after reportedly making a threat against their middle school, officials say.

According to the Royce City Police Department, the Ouida Baley Middle School student made a verbal threat against the school.

Police assessed the threat and visited the student’s home after hearing the report, officials say, and found the student didn’t have access to guns and didn’t believe the student seriously intended to carry out the threat. 

The student was arrested and charged with a terroristic threat, police said. 

“The safety and security of our students and staff are the police department’s and school district’s top priority,” the department said. “Threats of violence to any student, staff member and/or the school will not be tolerated.”
