DALLAS — Dallas Police are investigating two separate shootings in Deep Ellum on Wednesday morning, officials say.
Around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dallas Police responded to reports of multiple people being shot in the 2900 block of Commerce Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found five people with gunshot wounds. All five victims had non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials on scene.
While officers were at the Commerce Street scene, a separate shooting call came in down the street in the 2800 block of Elm Street. Officials on scene tell WFAA a security guard was shot and killed just after midnight Wednesday. The security guard was transported to the hospital by a co-worker, where he died from his injuries, police said.
One suspect was detained for the shooting death of the security guard, officials say.
Officials say the two shootings are unrelated despite their proximity. Officers blocked off a large portion of Deep Ellum overnight as they investigated both shootings.
Dallas Police continue to investigate what led up to both shootings.
