One person critically injured when Amtrak train slams into car in NE Harris County

HOUSTON — A crash involving an Amtrak train and a passenger vehicle in northeast Harris County Sunday sent two people to the hospital, according to Harris County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene along Lockwood between West Lake Houston Parkway and East Sam Houston Parkway for what officials described as a major crash involving a train and a vehicle.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle drove through crossing arms that were down and was struck by the train.

Both the driver and a passenger were transported to the hospital. One of them is reported to be in critical condition.

According to the Sheldon Volunteer Fire Department, the train’s conductor went to help and was confronted by at least four alligators.
