A man shooting squirrels on his property prompted Rockwall police to briefly place an elementary school on hold, police said.
ROCKWALL, Texas — An elementary school in Rockwall was briefly put on a secure status on Wednesday while police investigated reports of shots being fired. However, police later found the shots were being fired by a resident shooting squirrels, officials said.
The Rockwall Police Department responded to reports of shots fired around 9:30 a.m. near Ridge Road West, the department said in a social media post.
An hour later, Rockwall police said they located the source of the gunfire, and it was found to be a neighbor with acreage shooting at squirrels, according to a social media post.
After identifying the source of the shots, police lifted the secure status at the nearby elementary school. No injuries were reported.
