A hog hunter accidentally shot himself while warding off an attack, according to Teague police.
FREESTONE COUNTY, Texas — A man told police that he accidentally shot himself in the leg while hog hunting in Freestone County Thursday, officials said.
Just before 4:30 p.m., officers with the Teague Police Department were called to the 600 block of J.A. Brooks Drive after a man reported he had been shot in the leg, police said. He told police that he was traveling from the Dew area to seek help.
The man told police he had been hog hunting, was attacked by a hog, and inadvertently discharged his firearm, resulting in an injury, Teague PD said.
He was treated at the scene by Teague EMS and was taken by Air Evac to a hospital for treatment, police said.
“There is no known threat to public safety,” Teague PD said.
Police said the shooting did not happen within city limits, so the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Game Wardens are leading the investigation.
The man’s current condition was not immediately released.
