The FIFA World Cup Final will feature a halftime show to support global education initiatives.
WASHINGTON — For the first time ever, the FIFA World Cup Final will include a halftime show, and three big-name musical acts have signed on to perform.
Madonna, Shakira and BTS will co-headline the halftime show on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Coldplay’s Chris Martin, who is curating the show, made the announcement on Wednesday in a social media video, joined by several Muppets including Elmo, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
The halftime show, produced by Global Citizen, will raise money for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund to improve access to quality education and soccer for children around the world.
Last week, performers before the first World Cup games were announced, including Katy Perry, Future, Lisa and Tyla, singer Anitta, singer/rapper Rema and DJ Sanjoy at the June 12 game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Entertainment before the tournament opener between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium in June 11 will include Tyla along with singers Alejandro Fernández, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Belinda and J Balvin and the groups Los Ángeles Azules and Maná.
Canada’s opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto’s BMO Field will have entertainment by singers Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Nora Fatehi, William Prince, Elyanna and Vegedream, along with DJ Sanjoy.
