The winners move on to the November general election to take the seat being vacated by current Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo.
HOUSTON — The field of candidates vying to take over the seat being vacated by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo will be cut in half after Tuesday’s primary election runoffs.
There are two Democrats and two Republicans who advanced to runoff elections after failing to secure 50 percent of the vote in the March 3 primary.
On the Democratic side, former Houston Mayor Annise Parker and Houston Councilmember Letitia Plummer will go head-to-head. Parker came within three points of winning the nomination in the March 3 election. Plummer exceeded expectations to force the runoff.
On the Republican side, former Houston Councilmember and Harris County treasurer Orlando Sanchez and Warren A. Howell, who is president and owner of Employers Risk Insurance.
The winners of Tuesday’s elections will move on to face each other in the November general elections. The office will be open because current Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo announced last year that she would not seek another term in office. It’s a position she’s held since January 2019.
Primary runoff Election Day is Tuesday, May 26. KHOU 11 will have complete coverage of all the key races. We’ll stream live from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., then have a full recap on KHOU 11 News at 10.
