Texas attorney at center of controversial plea deal released from McLennan County Jail

Adam Dean Hoffman, a Waco attorney, has been released from jail after serving a sentence for reduced misdemeanor charges in a child sexual abuse case.

WACO, Texas — Adam Dean Hoffman, the Waco attorney sentenced to 60 days in McLennan County Jail after a judge doubled his original sentence in a child sexual abuse case, was released from custody Monday morning, jail officials confirmed.

Hoffman walked out of the McLennan County Jail at 8:01 a.m.

Case Background

Hoffman had pleaded guilty to reduced misdemeanor charges stemming from a continuous sexual abuse case that drew widespread public criticism over what many residents considered a lenient outcome and sentence.

In addition to his jail sentence, Hoffman agreed in court to surrender his law license for five years, after which he would be allowed to reapply and retake the bar exam. Additionally, Hoffman is not required to register as a sex offender.

His original 3-day sentence was doubled to 60 days on April 27 following a public outcry from Waco residents and scrutiny from a state lawmaker
