Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s office honored Sheila Jones with a promotion to corporal, recognizing her leadership, resilience, and service.
HOUSTON — A Harris County Precinct 1 deputy constable who was injured in the line of duty during a downtown Houston courthouse shootout last year is being recognized for her service and leadership with a promotion.
Deputy Sheila Jones was promoted to corporal in the Operations Support Division during a ceremony led by Constable Alan Rosen.
According to Precinct 1 officials, Corporal Jones earned the promotion through her professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving the community.
“Corporal Jones has consistently demonstrated integrity, hard work, and leadership in everything she does,” the department said when announcing the promotion.
Jones made headlines in April 2025 after she was shot while responding to an armed suspect outside the Harris County Family Law Center in downtown Houston. Authorities said her actions during the incident helped stop what could have become a mass casualty event.
Law enforcement leaders praised Jones for her bravery and quick response during the chaotic scene.
Now, more than a year later, colleagues say her promotion reflects both her resilience and her continued commitment to public service.
“This well-earned promotion reflects the dedication she brings to the badge each and every day,” Precinct 1 officials said.
Members of the department congratulated Corporal Jones on the achievement and said they look forward to her continued leadership within the agency.
Corporal Jones was pinned by her two sons, who also work in law enforcement.
