Former U.S. attorney Jennifer Bess Lowery faces felony charges in Harris County for allegedly failing to stop and render aid after a crash, court documents show.
HOUSTON — A former U.S. attorney has been charged in Harris County with felony failure to stop and render aid after a May 14 crash that left another driver injured, according to court documents.
According to investigators, Jennifer Bess Lowery, 58, was involved in a crash that night at about 8 p.m. at the intersection of Birdsall Street and Memorial Drive.
The other person involved in the crash told investigators he was eastbound on Memorial Drive when he was hit, and the other vehicle drove away after the crash. He said he had ringing in his ears after the crash.
A witness told investigators they saw a heavily damaged dark-colored sedan driving south on Birdsall Street and later saw a woman park the car on Sandman Street.
Investigators said they later found a blue Audi parked at that address with missing front-end parts and significant damage. That vehicle was registered to Lowery, investigators said.
Court documents also say Lowery’s husband, Matthew Willis, told officers he was an attorney and would not allow his wife to provide a statement at that time.
Houston police took the case to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which accepted the felony charge of failure to stop and render aid.
Lowery’s attorney called the situation a misunderstanding because Lowery believed the vehicle she hit had also left the scene.
Court records show that Lowery made bond. It’s unclear when she’s due back in court.
