The strong storm moved in after midnight, waking residents up with marble-size hail.
PEARLAND, Texas — A Pearland neighborhood spent the morning cleaning up after overnight storms brought heavy rain and pockets of hail to parts of the Houston area.
Residents in the Pine Shadows neighborhood said hail started coming down just before 12:30 a.m. and lasted nearly an hour.
Charles and Debbie Cummings said they woke up to yards, roofs, streets and even their pool covered in pine needles, pinecones and other debris.
Debbie Cummings recorded cellphone video as the hail came down.
“It sounded like we were being attacked it was crazy,” she said.
The couple said the hail appeared to be about marble-sized. Charles Cummings said it left small dents across the hood of his truck and damaged a backyard storage container.
“It was hitting it so hard I said oh my gosh it’s fixing to break through,” he told us.
The Cummings have lived in their home since 1979 and said they have weathered plenty of storms, including Hurricane Harvey. While they said this storm was not on that level, the cleanup still took hours.
“Total disaster it looked like a hurricane had come through,” Charles Cummings said.
Fortunately, the couple said they did not have shattered windows or major structural damage. But Charles said his truck will likely need a new hood.
“I was dreading getting up and facing this,” he said. “I was worried about what kind of damage it did, but it looks like my truck took most of the damage.”
Rain continued on and off across the Houston area throughout the day, slowing cleanup for some residents.
Pearland wasn’t the only community to get hail. KHOU 11 meteorologist Chris Ramirez ran a hail track that showed where hail was detected.
