Bush Airport: If you’re flying Spirit, don’t show up for your flight

Spirit Airlines announced early Saturday morning that it has officially gone out of business after 34 years.

HOUSTON — If you have a flight out of Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) with Spirit Airlines, you may want to check your booking.

Spirit Airlines announced early Saturday morning that it has officially gone out of business after 34 years.

“The airline advises customers not to come to the airport,” the airport said in a social media post. “Spirit counters at IAH are closed.”

In a news release, the airport said all Spirit Airlines signage is being removed “to avoid confusion.”

“Spirit Airlines made the decision to cease operations at Bush Airport, and we know that creates uncertainty for travelers. Our focus is on delivering clear information, compassionate support and a safe, seamless experience for everyone who walks through our doors,” said Jim Szczesniak, director of aviation for Houston Airports. “Houston Airports remains fully operational, and our teams are working together to guide passengers to the resources and airline options they need to continue their journeys.”

Any passengers who had flights booked on Spirit Airlines are urged to visit the airline’s website for information on their refund status and what to do next.

“To our Guests: all flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available,” the airline said in a notice posted on its website. “We are proud of the impact of our ultra-low-cost model on the industry over the last 34 years and had hoped to serve our Guests for many years to come.”
