Comedian Laura Clery reveals near-death experience after 600 lb. fridge fell on her

WASHINGTON — Comedian Laura Clery is opening up about a near-death experience after her 600-pound fridge fell on her, pinning her against the counter.

Clery shared the story on her Instagram, saying that her biggest fear had come true.

“Most terrifying night of my life as a single mom. I was home alone getting ready for bed when my 600 pound fridge slammed into me and pinned me against the counter. I couldn’t move,” she said in her caption. “Couldn’t breathe right. Was impossible to get off and I could feel myself losing consciousness. My kids were in the house.”

“I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive. Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911. Thank god it didn’t fall on my kids,” she added. “It took three firefighters to lift it off me. I’m still shaking.”

Clery shared video of herself getting taken out of her home on a stretcher. She confirmed she didn’t have any broken bones and that she was ok, besides bruising and pain.

The comedian, who had roles in “2 Broke Girls” and “The Longest Week,” shared the full story on her Patreon.

Clery said the incident happened after her son decided to climb her “massive French door fridge,” when she saw it shift slightly. She noted that the fridge is supposed to be mounted against the wall.

“So I ran over to push it back into place. I thought I’d just nudge it in and move on with my day like a woman who has control over her life,” she said on her Patreon. “The second I pushed it, it came down on me.”

“I couldn’t move. I tried to push it off and it didn’t even slightly budge. It felt like pushing against a building,” she described.

In a separate post, she thanked the firefighters and paramedics who aided her that night.

“I just need to say THANK YOU to these AMAZING firefighters who saved my life!! Truly. They got there so fast, broke through my garage door, and 3 of them pushed a 600-pound fridge off of me and got me safely to the trauma unit before things got worse,” she said.

Following the incident, Clery expressed she wants to sue the contractors who installed her fridge.

“This is a nearly 600 pound stainless steel French door fridge that was NOT properly mounted into the wall. Because of that, my 7 year old was able to pull it forward, and when I tried to push it back, it fell on me and was fully crushing me. It nearly killed me. And it could have absolutely killed my child. This should never have been possible. This was negligence,” she shared on Facebook.
