Blackstone seasoning recalled after ingredient linked to possible salmonella contamination

The nationwide recall affects select Parmesan Ranch seasoning sold at Walmart after a milk powder supplier flagged potential contamination.

Blackstone Products is voluntarily recalling certain lots of its Parmesan Ranch seasoning after a milk powder ingredient used in the product was linked to possible salmonella contamination.

The Utah-based company said the recall affects select 7.3-ounce containers of Blackstone Parmesan Ranch seasoning sold nationwide through Walmart stores and the company’s website. No illnesses have been reported.

According to the company, the recall stems from a separate recall by California Dairies, Inc. involving dry milk powder that may have been contaminated with salmonella. The milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer and later used in the seasoning product.

Salmonella can cause serious or sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and cause more severe illnesses.
