Are tattoos being banned in Texas? Another reason not to believe everything you see on social media

No, Texas isn’t outlawing tattoos, despite what you may see on social media.

HOUSTON — A viral claim about tattoos being banned in Texas is spreading online, and it has a lot of people confused.

Circulating posts on social media falsely claim a new Texas law would make tattoos illegal by 2028.

The claims even appear to use a fake press release attributed to Gov. Greg Abbott.

One red flag, though, is that Texas didn’t even have a legislative session in 2024, the date that’s listed on the post. State records also show the bill number mentioned in the posts has nothing to do with tattoos.
