A 60-year-old man is in custody after reports of an active shooter situation in a Montgomery County neighborhood.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — Montgomery County deputies and multiple law enforcement agencies responded to what was initially reported as an active shooter situation Saturday afternoon in the Kings Colony neighborhood in New Caney, where officials say a suspect is now in custody.
Authorities say the incident began around 1 p.m. as an argument between a 17-year-old boy and 60-year-old Juan Ayala-Montero. Investigators say the situation escalated when Ayala-Montero allegedly pointed a rifle from a home and fired multiple shots over the course of several hours.
Family members shared a video of the incident and described chaos as shots were fired and people ran for cover.
“He was just pointing at everybody and he let out shots on everybody… my brother got hit on the head and on the side, he got scraped on the side,” said Camilo Samano, the victim’s brother.
Investigators say 31 shell casings were recovered at the scene.
The 17-year-old, identified as Uziel Samano, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including a head injury and a graze wound, according to family members.
Officials say early reports of multiple victims were later corrected, confirming one injured victim and minor injuries to the suspect, who was also taken into custody.
Ayala-Montero faces a charge of deadly conduct, discharging a firearm and is being held on bond. Authorities say he also has a federal ICE detainer and was previously deported from the U.S.
The 17-year-old also faces a charge of false report to a peace officer, which investigators say stems from information that allegedly hindered the investigation.
