H-E-B filed a replat application for the site, which will be up for approval at the Houston Planning Commission’s May 28 meeting.
HOUSTON — H-E-B LP has its sights set on a parcel of land in the East End, potentially ending the area’s food desert status sometime in the future.
The San Antonio-based retailer confirmed to the Houston Business Journal that it’s under contract for a 6-acre parcel at Delano, Canal and Commerce streets, near where the current MoonStruck Drive-In movie theater currently operates at 45 N. Delano St.
“H-E-B is under contract on a property in the East End and we are working through the due diligence process,” Lisa Helfman, managing director of public affairs for H-E-B Houston, said in an emailed statement. “We continue to look for growth opportunities throughout the Houston area, however we do not have any current plans for this site.”
H-E-B filed a replat application with the Houston Planning Commission on May 16 that shows the growing grocery chain is asking the city to consolidate the 6-acre parcel land into one continuous block.
