LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas — A California-based medical equipment manufacturer has ended up developing a massive energy park and data center campus in Liberty County.
Founded in 2014, BaRupOn LLC grew overnight during the COVID-19 pandemic as it produced test kits for the virus. The company grew from about five to 10 employees to a few hundred within a few months, BaRupOn COO Balaji Tammabattula told the Houston Business Journal.
The exposure led the company to secure a government contract to produce methacrylic acid, a chemical used in a lot of the medical equipment BaRupOn was already manufacturing. However, chemical manufacturing was new to the company.
“When we were awarded the contract, we realized California is not a place to do any manufacturing, so the best place would be somewhere over here, right here in the middle (of the United States). And we were exploring options. Where do we go? We could go to Houston, Texas, or we go find a place in Texas, or to Louisiana. We were exploring all these different areas,” Tammabattula said.
