The woman was attacked in a parking garage and forced into her own vehicle when she tried to scream. She survived multiple stab wounds and cuts all over her body.
HOUSTON — Court documents reveal the harrowing details about an assault inside a Texas Medical Center parking garage and how a woman fought to survive the brutal stabbing and robbery.
Prosecutors say 46-year-old Perry Green attacked the woman inside the parking garage about a week ago, before she managed to escape and get help. Green has been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping in connection with the attack.
According to prosecutors, Green approached the woman on the fifth floor of the garage armed with a kitchen knife shortly after 7 a.m.
Investigators said the woman tried to scream for help but was forced inside her vehicle, where she fought back against her attacker.
“Complainant, fearing for her safety, started kicking defendant, screaming for help. Complainant stated defendant entered into the driver’s seat of the vehicle while stabbing her in the chest, telling her if she did not stop screaming, he would kill her,” a prosecutor said in court.
Prosecutors allege the victim was stabbed seven times in the chest and suffered lacerations all over her body, from her face to her ankles.
Even while being attacked, investigators say the woman continued fighting back. Prosecutors said she slammed her head against the horn of her vehicle in an attempt to alert someone nearby.
“The complainant believed the defendant was attempting to kill her,” The prosecutor said. “The defendant stopped choking the complainant once she reached towards the passenger door handle. Complainant managed to wrap her legs around the defendant’s legs while attempting to disarm him.”
At one point during the attack, prosecutors allege Green zip-tied the woman’s hands.
Investigators said the woman eventually used her toes to open the passenger-side door and escape the vehicle before running to a bystander for help.
Hospital officials previously said several employees witnessed the attack and rendered first aid before first responders arrived.
Prosecutors said Green then grabbed the woman’s backpack and fled the scene.
The victim, who works at Houston Methodist’s Research Institute, was taken to a nearby emergency room for treatment and later released from the hospital. Houston Methodist previously said she was “doing well, remains in good spirits, and appreciates the continued thoughts and prayers she has received.”
Police arrested Green on Wednesday night. METRO officials said surveillance footage from the transit system was provided to investigators to assist in identifying the suspect.
Green is currently being held without bond because of his criminal history, which includes arrests for burglary, drug possession and a previous aggravated robbery conviction. Court records show he served 15 years of a 24-year sentence tied to that aggravated robbery conviction.
Another bond hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, where prosecutors are expected to argue that Green should remain jailed without bail.
