North Texas police shoot suspect after chase ends with crash, Johnson County officials say

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was shot by officers after he reportedly pulled out a gun. He was taken to a local hospital.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — After leading police on a chase that ended in a crash, officials say North Texas deputies shot a suspect with a gun Saturday evening.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s office, Johnson County deputies were called to be on the look out for a suspect, Joseph Boy, who reportedly had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Boy had reportedly made threats he would get into a shootout with police rather than go back to prison, officials said.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers found Boy and tried to stop his vehicle, but Boy fled, leading them on a chase, according to police. Johnson County deputies helped with the pursuit.

Deputies reportedly used a precision immobilization technique to end the chase, officials said, causing Boy to crash. While attempting to arrest Boy, he reportedly pulled out a gun. Officers then shot Boy.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment, officials said. His condition isn’t known as of Saturday evening. No officers were hurt during the incident.

The investigation is being turned over to the Texas Rangers, JCSO said.
