Flight carrying US representative makes emergency landing

The American Eagle flight began filling up with smoke shortly before landing in Kansas City.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An American Airlines regional jet carrying a congressman from Kansas made an emergency landing at Kansas City International Airport on Friday.

American Eagle Flight 5318, operated by PSA Airlines, was flying to Kansas City from Washington D.C., when the plane began filling up with smoke.

U.S. Rep. Tracey Mann (R-Kansas) posted a video from the tarmac after everyone on board was evacuated.

“There was smoke on our aircraft, and so we landed and are now sitting on the tarmac, everyone evacuated the aircraft, seems to be OK,” Mann said in the video. “Really appreciate our first responders, everyone from fire, they do a fantastic job every day.”

Mann also shared photos of the plane evacuating and added, “So glad everyone is safe.”

“They’re prepared for things like this,” Mann said. “That’s why it’s important that we support all of our first responders. Really appreciate them coming out right away and making sure there’s no issues.”

The flight was carrying 76 passengers, and nobody was hurt. The FAA will investigate the incident, according to CNN.
