Married couple among victims in violent stabbing spree in southeast Houston

Investigators say a woman stabbed multiple people, including a married couple, during a violent night at a southeast Houston apartment complex.

HOUSTON — Residents at a southeast Houston apartment complex are recovering after investigators say a woman armed with a knife went on a violent stabbing spree targeting multiple people, including a married couple.

Authorities say the suspect may have been experiencing some kind of mental crisis as the attacks unfolded Wednesday night.

Investigators say the violence began near a convenience store before moving into the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex along Broadway Street.

According to investigators, the incident started around 9 p.m. when a woman described as being in her 40s approached a man near the convenience store and chased him with a knife. Police say the man managed to escape before the suspect moved toward the apartment complex.

Investigators say the suspect then threatened a woman and her 7-year-old child, telling them she would stab them if they did not run. The mother and child were able to make it safely inside an apartment.

Authorities say the suspect later encountered four more people in the apartment complex parking lot.

That is when investigators say two victims — a 42-year-old woman and her 69-year-old husband — were stabbed multiple times.

Police say the woman was stabbed three times in the stomach. The man was stabbed twice in the back and once in the stomach.

“She was obviously in some kind of crisis,” HPD Lt. Willkens said. “We’re not sure, she’s telling us when we actually took her into custody that she’s on seizure medication or something like that so we don’t know where all that’s going to go just yet.”

Police say the suspect was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Investigators are now working to determine whether mental health issues may have played a role in the attacks.

Meanwhile, both stabbing victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

Investigators are still working with the District Attorney’s Office to determine what charges the suspect could face.
