The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office, officials say.

MCLENDON-CHISHOLM, Texas — McLendon-Chisholm police are investigating the death of a construction worker at the site of the Edwards Road project, officials say.

According to McLendon-Chisholm Fire-Rescue, it’s working with the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office on the incident, which took place on Torrente Drive in Sanoma Verde.

Officials said in a press release that the victim was identified as a 56-year-old Kaufman County resident who was employed by a utility contractor working on a sewer installation project in the area. First responders determined the individual was deceased at the scene.

“I’ve been informed of a tragic loss at the Edwards road construction site today, where a worker’s life was cut short,” McLendon-Chisholm Mayor Elect Jerry Brewer said in a statement on social media. “Let’s surround the deceased, their loved ones, and colleagues with love, care, and prayers during this difficult time. Meanwhile, let’s allow the authorities to work uninterrupted and avoid the area.”

The Edwards Road project is intended to rebuild the road, starting at the League Road intersection and ending near 428 Edwards Road, about 1.17 miles.

The incident is still under investigation. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office, officials say. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has also been notified, officials said.
