Mexican national accused of injuring federal immigration officers during Lewisville pursuit, officials say

A Mexican national living in Lewisville was charged in federal court after authorities say he rammed multiple federal law enforcement vehicles, injuring two.

LEWISVILLE, Texas — A Mexican national living in Lewisville has been charged in federal court after authorities say he injured two federal immigration officers last month, officials said.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas, 38-year-old Jose Andres Hernandez Medina appeared before a federal magistrate judge Thursday.

Federal authorities said that on April 30 during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation near a Lewisville apartment complex, officers attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Hernandez Medina. He accelerated and rammed one federal vehicle, injuring an officer who was hospitalized, officials said. He then struck a second federal vehicle, seriously injuring another officer, who was also taken to a hospital.

Investigators allege Hernandez Medina continued driving, crashing into several vehicles before attempting to run on foot.

A passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody on an immigration hold, while a third occupant has not yet been caught.

Federal officials said immigration records indicate Hernandez Medina had previously been deported from the United States at least three times.

If convicted, Hernandez Medina faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
