The White House press secretary is currently on maternity leave and other Trump administration officials have been filling in the role in her absence.
WASHINGTON — White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has officially welcomed a baby girl.
The 28-year-old announced the birth of her baby on May 7, posting a picture of her and Viviana in a pink and yellow nursery. The press secretary said she gave birth on May 1.
“On May 1st, Viviana aka “Vivi” joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love,” Leavitt wrote in an X post Thursday. “She is perfect and healthy, and her big brother is joyfully adjusting to life with his new baby sister. We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble.”
“Thank you to everyone who reached out with prayers during my pregnancy – I truly felt them throughout the entire experience. God is Good,” she added.
Leavitt is currently on maternity leave from her role at the White House. She briefly made a return during a press conference after a shooting at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner on April 25.
During her maternity leave, other Trump administration officials have stepped behind the podium to fulfill the role of press secretary. That included Secretary of State Marco Rubio who subbed for Leavitt on Tuesday.
The nation’s top diplomat already doubles as Trump’s national security adviser and for a while was the acting archivist of the United States and the acting administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development.
His last formal briefing for reporters was at the State Department briefing room in December.
It’s unclear how long Leavitt will be away from the podium during her maternity leave.
Leavitt shares two children with husband Nicolas Riccio. The couple has a son named Nicholas.
