A business meeting in Carrollton, Texas turned deadly as Seung Ho Han, 69, is charged with capital murder and assault over a financial dispute, police say.
CARROLLTON, Texas — There are flowers placed on display at the Korean Association of Dallas for the victims in Tuesday’s deadly shooting.
Wednesday marked the first full day of mourning for the two victims who died and the three others recovering from their injuries at Ktowne Plaza in Carrollton. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has identified one of the victims who died as 63-year-old Sung Rae Cho.
“We’re all very shocked,” leaders of the Korean Society of Dallas said during a press conference Wednesday morning. “This hits close to home.”
Police arrested the suspect, Seung Ho Han, 69, following a short foot chase at the H Mart on Old Denton Road in Carrollton. He’s being charged with three charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, along with two charges of capital murder.
Among the confusion in what leaders said is a “tight-knit” Korean community, residents are trying to figure out why a business meeting turned into the unimaginable.
The suspect allegedly confessed to shooting all five victims to police because of financial agreements connected with their business dealings.
A sign on the door where police zeroed in on during the investigation reads:
“Dear Tenant: The locks on the doors to these premises have been changed by the Landlord pursuant to Chapter 93 of the Texas Property Code. Entry by any other source is against the laws of Texas.”
As of Wednesday, crime scene tape was removed from the parking lot, and some businesses have reopened. Other businesses are waiting for the gas to be turned back on.
In a statement to WFAA, a spokesperson with Atmos Energy stated:
“Following yesterday’s tragic events in Carrollton, Texas, first responders suspended natural gas service to all shopping center tenants as a precautionary measure. Atmos Energy technicians were permitted on scene earlier today, and we are currently working to restore natural gas service for those affected businesses.”
