Buc-ee’s sues Georgia convenience store chain

Buc-ee’s, a gas station chain nationally recognized for its mall-sized stores, barbecue sandwiches and beaver merchandise, is suing a convenience chain.

ATLANTA — Buc-ee’s, a gas station chain nationally recognized for its mall-sized stores, barbecue sandwiches and beaver merchandise, has accused a small convenience store chain in Georgia of attempting to exploit the Buc-ee’s brand.

In a trademark suit filed last Friday, Buc-ee’s alleged that Teddy’s, a convenience store in Canton and Ball Ground, Georgia, copied the Texas-based gas station chain’s mascot and branding strategies. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

A representative from Teddy’s did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication.

Rather than a beaver, Teddy’s mascot is an ambiguous koala bear-like anthropomorphic creature. The Teddy’s mascot was registered as a trademark in November 2024, when the first Teddy’s store opened, according to court documents.
