Expect lane closures this weekend on Dallas North Tollway through Uptown

The DNT won’t be fully closed for a stretch through the Lemmon Avenue corridor, but only one lane will be open in both directions.

DALLAS — Drivers who rely on the Dallas North Tollway through Uptown should prepare for a noticeably slower commute this weekend, as a key stretch near Lemmon Avenue is reduced to a single lane in each direction.

The closure runs from 10 p.m. Friday, May 1 through 5 a.m. Monday, May 4, and while the Tollway is not fully shutting down, the impact will be significant. Through the Lemmon Avenue corridor, between Wycliff Avenue and Mockingbird Lane, traffic will funnel into just one open lane in both directions.

In a part of Dallas that already sees heavy volume, especially near downtown and Uptown, that kind of reduction is likely to create a bottleneck for much of the weekend.

What’s closing and why

According to the North Texas Tollway Authority, the lane closures are tied to bridge maintenance work over Lemmon Avenue, part of a broader series of ongoing repairs and improvements along the Tollway system.

On the road, that breaks down like this:

• Northbound DNT: two right lanes closed from just north of Wycliff Avenue approaching Lemmon Avenue

• Southbound DNT: two right lanes closed from Mockingbird Lane down to Lemmon Avenue

At least one lane will stay open in each direction, but traffic will be squeezed into a much tighter space through one of the Tollway’s busiest stretches.

The NTTA has been conducting ongoing maintenance, resurfacing, and infrastructure work across multiple segments of the Dallas North Tollway this spring, with both daytime and overnight lane closures becoming more common.

That means drivers may continue to see similar closures pop up along different nearby portions of the Tollway in the coming months.

Alternate routes to consider

Drivers looking to avoid the slowdown have a few options, depending on how far they’re traveling:

• I-35E provides a parallel north-south route west of the Tollway

• DNT frontage roads can help for shorter, local trips

• US-75 (Central Expressway) is an option for those planning to travel east of DNT, though it may see increased volume as drivers reroute

Choosing the best alternate will depend on your starting point and destination, but the key is planning ahead before you go.
