HPD: Missing woman’s remains found in cooler near Buffalo Bayou

The remains of Dionne Williams were found in a cooler near Buffalo Bayou earlier this year. She had been reported missing months before the discovery.

HOUSTON — Houston police said they’ve identified the human remains found in a cooler by Buffalo Bayou earlier this year.

They said the remains were those of Dionne Williams, who was 35.

The remains were found along Hirsch Road near Clinton Drive, just east of downtown and north of Buffalo Bayou, on Feb. 12.

Houston police said officers responded to the scene around 5 p.m. after getting reports of a suspicious package. A man who was searching for scrap metal told officers he found what he believed to be human remains in a cooler.

When they opened the cooler, they found a human skull.

Earlier this month, the Harris County Forensic Science Center positively identified the remains as those of Williams, who had been reported missing in the summer of 2024.

Details about how she died are unknown.

Anyone with information about Williams’ whereabouts between April and August last year is asked to call the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

Here’s a report from the night of the discovery:
