“With a heavy heart, we wanted to share the news with all of you guys,” Jenny Slatten said in a post on Instagram.
WASHINGTON — Jenny Slatten of “90 Day Fiance” has been diagnosed with ALS.
The 68-year-old TLC star shared the news in an exclusive interview with People magazine in an article that was published on Tuesday and confirmed the diagnosis on social media.
“With a heavy heart, we wanted to share the news with all of you guys,” Slatten said in a post on Instagram.
Jenny and Sumit live in India and met during the show’s 2019 season. They have appeared in subsequent seasons and spinoffs and are set to appear in season 3 of “90 Day: The Last Resort,” which premieres June 1.
Slatten said she was beginning to experience symptoms in December of 2024, telling the magazine that she choked “badly” while drinking water, struggled to swallow pills, and started dealing with migraines. Then her speech began to slow down, and she avoided speaking almost entirely.
“That’s when we knew something was wrong,” she told the magazine.
It took a year for Jenny and her husband, 38-year-old Sumit Singh, to finally get their answer.
“There was a rumor that I had a stroke, but it turned out to be ALS,” she wrote on Instagram. “At first, we tried to keep it private because it’s been very emotional and overwhelming for us. We were hoping to find some kind of solution before speaking publicly. But after trying for some time, we feel it’s time to reach out.”
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurological disorder that affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The condition is degenerative, and there is currently no cure. The average live expectancy is roughly two to five years after diagnosis.
Jenny’s father died of the illness just over a decade ago, she told the magazine, which led her to believe it may be the cause of her symptoms. Roughly 10% of ALS cases are found to have a genetic cause.
“Thank you so much for all the love and support,” she posted on Instagram.
